Gregory S. Thomas was born June 3, 1963 in Cleveland Ohio, the youngest child to Wilmer D. Thomas (deceased) and Mae Frances Thomas. Pastor Thomas was raised in Cleveland along side of his three brothers and eldest sister. As a teenager, Gregory accepeted Christ as his personal savior and was baptized May 13, 1979 under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Charles L. Scott. It was at St. Paul where Gregory developed his leadership abilities by being part of the Young Peoples Department. He was a youth delegate to the Women Missionary Society Quadrennial Convention in 1980 representing his collegues from the North Ohio Annual Conference.
Upon graduation from the Cleveland Public Schools, he was inducted into the Whos Who Among High School Students. He attended the University of Toledo where he graduated with a B+ average obtaining a Bachelors of Business Administration specializing in Computer Systems. During his college career, Rev. Thomas worked for the Standard Oil Company as an intern with Inroad Northeast Ohio during school breaks. This internship help established Rev. Thomas’ ability to be financially responsible for paying his education without the assistance of any financial assistance.
After graduation from the University of Toledo, he accepted full time employment with the sucessor company of the Standard Oil Company, British Petroleum as a Computer Analyst. After being promoted to various job of increasing responsibilities, Gregory began his dream of completing his law degree at Cleveland Marshall College of Law at night while being married to his high school sweet heart, Michelle and two children Gregory Jr. and Cherise were born. Upon graduation from Cleveland Marshall College of Law, with his Doctorate of Juris Prudence, Gregory was called into the ministry at his home Church, St. Paul. After matriculating through the North Ohio Board of Examinators, Rev. Thomas was ordained an Itenerate Deacon and two years later was ordained as an Itenerate Elder for the Third Episcopal District of the African Methodish Episcopal Church.
Continuing his service to his local Church, Rev. Thomas was appointed to his first pastoral assignment of Greater Bethel AME Church in Collingwood Ohio. As this membership grew, Rev. Thomas was impactful in this local community for nine fruitful years until promoted to Quinn Chapel AME Church in Cleveland Ohio. After serving his second pastoral charge for nearly eight years, Rev. Thomas was appointed the lead pastor of St. Paul AME Church, his home church. The spiritual fervor of the church continues to grow under his leadership. Rev. Thomas attributes this growth and expansion to the glory of God. One of his favorite scriputes states impatically, “[one] planted the seed, [one] watered it, but God has been making it grow” 1 Corinthians 3:6. Any success is attributable to the wonderful hand of Almighty God.
Some of his awards and affiliations include: President of the Methodist Ministerial Alliance, Dean’s list, Ohio Bar Association, National Honor Society, Whos Who Among High School Students, One Hundred Black Men of Northeast Ohio, Golden Glove, City and Regional champion and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated.
He is the proud father of two children, Gregory Jr. (deceased) and Cherise and grandson, Jaiden.
